Project Brief:

We had fun with colour!

A decade after this house and garden had undergone renovation it was time for a refresh.

The raised beds had allowed all manner of ball games, but now it was tired and the view narrow.

Crumbling trellis was falling about the ears, and much of the evergreen tropical planting had outgrown its allotted space. It was dark.

With a handsome Sycamore casting shadow from a neighbour's garden, the goal was to open up the planting and bring in light. A sunken gravel seating area was devised - bang in the centre of the garden - to allow for a fully immersive experience. Plants that enjoyed the woodland floor were introduced. From the centre the two sculptural multi-stemmed Heptacodium trees deliver a woodland understory.

Colour became a focus for the existing structures. Bold additions that surprised the eye but remain confluent with London's architectural vernacular.
